Myki Activities

In the various Naga tribal dialects, Myki is a ‘word’ that embodies a dual meaning for “women” and “home”. This inspired the department to initiate a transformative program to empower women in Nagaland to rise above gender issues and forge their own paths. Through Myki initiatives, women gain access to sustainable livelihoods, education, and economic opportunities, unlocking their potential to drive positive change.

The term Myki was coined to cover various activities of women under various projects and programmes of the department. The department continues to churn out various products under different existing projects and programmes under the brand name of Myki which has gained immense popularity both within and outside the State.

During 2026-27, the Department will continue to promote and support production activities of women under the following heads:

Apparels & Accessories Production Programme:

Conceived to popularize Naga-themed apparels and accessories with modern motifs & designs such as stitched, woven or knitted garments, bags, face masks, crochet dolls, baskets, and a host of other accessories. This programme also provides opportunities for engagement of skilled unemployed women on pay-per-production basis. Finished products are made available in the market in a number of stores, including the Myki Store at Bayavu Colony, Kohima and at Walford Colony, Dimapur, near Urban Haat, under the Myki Nagaland brand.

During 2025-26, production activity continued with inclusion of more skilled unemployed women on pay-per-production basis. Short duration courses on skill development/upgradation on production of both apparels and accessories have been provided in batch-wise manner.

Food Processing & Resource Centre

The Centre, based at Department’s land premises at Meriema processes a select number of food products, the raw materials of which are sourced locally through women farmers and SHGs. While some of the products are semi-processed by the farmers themselves through sun-drying, quality control and final processing are being done at the Centre with the use of osmo-dehydrators and other value addition processes. Quality packaging materials are being used to ensure that there are no leakages and the finished products are made available in the market under the Myki Nagaland brand. The existing products have already been registered under FSSAI. Short duration training programmes for women in food processing are being imparted from time to time.

The Myki Village Adoption Initiative

Launched during 2024-25, it’s an initiative to adopt a particular village to take up specific women centric sustainable livelihood activity, as ‘One Village, One Product’ by emulating Government Policy of One Product One District.

During 2026-27, under this Initiative, One Village will be identified for taking up project accordingly.

Promotion of Textile & Related activities

To enable creation of sustainable livelihood opportunities for women, training on Lion Loom & Fly shuttle loom and promotion of New Age Textile Fiber (Roselle) are being proposed to taken up under this initiative.
